Joshua Davenport represents clients in a wide range of personal-injury matters including automobile accidents, workers’ compensation claims, premises liability, construction accidents, and medical malpractice. Mr. Davenport regularly appears before the Maryland Workers’ Compensation Commission, District of Columbia Office of Workers’ Compensation, District of Columbia Superior Court, and the Circuit Courts of Prince George’s County and Montgomery County, Maryland.
Mr. Davenport joined the firm in August 2006. Previously, Mr. Davenport was a litigation associate for four years with Wilmer, Cutler, Pickering, Hale and Dorr LLP. During his tenure there, Mr. Davenport represented a broad range of clients in a variety of matters, including a polio-vaccine manufacturer in a series of products-liability cases.
Mr. Davenport attended Duke University School of Law where he was twice elected to the Judiciary Board. While in law school, Mr. Davenport interned with the District of Columbia Public Defender Service in the Felony Trial Division. Mr. Davenport received his undergraduate degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Pomona College. His senior thesis entitled “The Zero Sum Game Solution: the Equal Worth of Legal Representation” was awarded with honors.
Mr. Davenport is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia and Maryland. Mr. Davenport is also admitted to practice law in the United State District Court of Maryland, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the United States Court of International Trade. Mr. Davenport is a member of the American Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, the Prince George’s County Bar Association, and the Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan Washington, D.C.
Continuing the firm’s proud tradition of representing workers who are injured on the job, Mr. Davenport regularly conducts workers’ compensation seminars at many union halls, including Teamsters Local 639 in Washington, D.C.
Recent Highlights
Won jury verdict increasing permanent partial disability benefits for laborer who broke his wrist and injured his shoulder while attempting to move a large appliance onto a forklift and underwent four surgeries. The Maryland Workers’ Compensation Commission ruled that the laborer sustained a permanent partial disability of 50%, however the laborer’s employer appealed the Commission’s decision to the Circuit Court of Prince George’s County, Maryland. At the conclusion of a jury trial, the jury awarded the laborer a permanent disability of 65%, which translated into approximately $44,000 more disability benefits than originally awarded by the Commission.
Secured a jury verdict in Prince George’s County Circuit Court for a construction worker who suffered fractured legs and psychological trauma when a concrete mixer truck collided with a tool box in which the worker was retrieving his tools, which crushed his legs and trapped his head in the tool box.
Successfully represented a security guard before the District of Columbia Office of Hearings and Adjudication who required knee surgery and could not return to work in a full-duty capacity, but whose employer refused to either authorize the surgery or accommodate her work restrictions.
Mr. Davenport lives in Maryland with his wife Kristin and their daughter Audrey.
