On January 29, 2008, the Virginia Court of Appeals made a significant clarification to the rules affecting injured workers.  Under Virginia Workers Compensation Rules, when a treating physician releases a worker to “light duty” work the worker has an immediate duty to inform his employer, and provide them with an opportunity to offer a light duty job.  If the employer offers a job within the worker’s physical restrictions the worker must accept the job or his benefits will be terminated.  Read the rest of this entry »

On January 14, 2008, Virginia Lawyers Weekly recognized both Julie Heiden and Peter DePaolis as having one of Virginia’s Largest Verdicts of 2007.

Paulette Chapman Teaches Course on Jury Selection

Partner Paulette Chapman recently taught a three hour class, “Essential Trial Skill Series: Part 1, Jury Selection,” for the District of Columbia Bar Association Continuing Legal Education program.  She has taught this course for 9 years along with two defense attorneys.  The lecture provides guidance to lawyers about how to select a jury during the process called “voir dire” which means “to speak the truth.”    Read the rest of this entry »

William Lightfoot Invited to Speak on Settlement Strategies

William Lightfoot has been invited to lecture on March 14, 2008 to the District of Columbia Trial Lawyers Association about settlement negotiation strategies in personal injury cases.

Woman awarded $2M Jury Verdict in Virginia

In May of 2007, a Fairfax County Circuit Court jury awarded Molly Raymond $2 million for brain and neck, back and hip injuries suffered in a July 2004 car accident in Virginia.  Virginia partners, Julie H.
