Scholarship

ASBESTOS WORKERS’ SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The law firm of Koonz, McKenney, Johnson, DePaolis & Lightfoot established the Asbestos Workers’ Scholarship Fund in 1986 for children, grandchildren, and spouses of Local #24 members. Each year two entrants will be awarded a four-year scholarship, totaling $2,000 for college tuition and related expenses. This scholarship has been awarded since 1985 and now over $100,000 has been awarded to more then 50 winners over the years.

The fund has been awarded since 1985. It is administered by Peter C. DePaolis from the law firm and the business agent from the Union. Each year two entrants are awarded the scholarship based upon academic achievement, community service, and the evaluation of a brief essay on the importance of unions in today’s society.

All children, grandchildren, and spouses of active members of the Union are eligible as long as they are currently in their senior year of high school or are enrolled in a college on either a full or part-time basis. Application forms require letters of recommendation, high school transcripts, SAT or equivalent scores, and an essay of at least 300 words. The topic to be addressed in the essay will be “The Importance of Union Commitment in America.”

ROBERT TEMPLETON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The law firm of Koonz, McKenney, Johnson, DePaolis & Lightfoot established the Robert R. Templeton Memorial Scholarship Fund in 1986. Each year a child of a Local #10 member will be awarded a $2,000.00 scholarship for college tuition and related expenses.

All children of active members of the union will be eligible as long as they are currently in their senior year of high school. Application forms will request letters of recommendation, high school transcripts, SAT or equivalent test scores and an essay regarding “The Importance of Union Commitment in America.”

Robert Templeton exemplified the very best in many ways, professionally and personally. We are honored to be able to memorialize his name and his commitment to your union with this scholarship fund.

Evening With Labor

The Evening With Labor is the annual AFL-CIO awards dinner and dance, which the labor council has been sponsoring for 32 years.  It is a time for local politicians, labor leaders, and friends of labor to come together to recognize the work of union members in political action, organizing, community services, and other areas.  About 1,000 people attend each year.  KMJDL has faithfully been a part of these festivities and will be for years to come.
